Tonight, there is a lot of confusion surrounding when, and if, a second round of stimulus checks will be distributed, after a series of tweets posted by President Donald Trump regarding coronavirus relief. On Tuesday, October 6, President Trump posted a tweet on twitter putting a pause on COVID-19 relief talks. The tweet stated “I have instructed my representatives to stop negotiating until after the election when, immediately after I win, we will pass a major stimulus bill that focuses on hardworking americans and small business.”

The tweet was soon followed by another, directed at House Speaker, Nancy Pelosi, stating that he would be prepared to sign a stand alone bill for the $1,200 stimulus checks to be sent out immediately.
With many now confused on where the talks surrounding the coronavirus relief stands, some local residents shared their thoughts on the impact they believe not passing a new round of Economic Impact Payments will have on those hoping for a second stimulus check.
“I think it will impact them a lot, because some people are out of jobs because of COVID, and you know they don’t have that much income, so they might need that extra money,” said Brandarius Boler.
“I understand it both ways, some people do need it, I mean – people that are already receiving checks, that kind of – they’re not going to stop their checks, I guess it could go either way, but I can see where a lot of people will need it, especially if this continues on where it is now,” said Mike Mitchell.
One man shared that he believes that if the second round of stimulus checks was to be delayed until after the November election as President Trump’s initial tweet proposed, it could have large impact on people in the service industries.

“Well I think any delay in that regard is going to be bad for people that have been waiting for it for a long time already. It’s a shame that those decisions haven’t been made yet, but hopefully they will be soon, if it waits until next year – I don’t know, there might be a lot of trouble for people, especially in the service industries,” said Larry Barber.
As of now, it is currently undetermined when Americans will see another round of stimulus checks, as Congress has not yet made an official decision regarding coronavirus relief.
