A group of women have decided to take it upon themself to clean up Meridian.

Joyce Lane and two other women hope to inspire the community to take pride in how the city looks by getting out and cleaning the streets.
"I saw people complaining on Queen City about nobody pulling the weeds. The weeds were growing up everywhere. The city didn't take care of it. The county didn't take care. Whose responsibility, was it? And it's all of our responsibilities, you know, every one of us has some ownership of this town", said Lane

The women are hoping to cause a domino effect within the community. One of the women says seeing others cleaning inspired her to help.
"I was walking with Pam, and she said Joyce was starting to clean up flower beds downtown. She said, "Do you want to go?" I said, yes, I want to go. So that's why I'm here."
For the past six days, the women have been cleaning downtown every morning as early as 7 A.M.
"My goal is to clean from Constitution to 25th and Front St. to 8th St. down. If you can't pull weeds, stop and say hi, honk, and give me a thumbs up. Most of all, try to come out for just an hour", expressed Joyce. "I tried to stay out for an hour because I'm old and I don't like the heat, but we've made a difference in a week."
