Louin, MS - Jessie Pierce is just one of the residents of Louin, Mississippi, still trying to recover after a devastating EF-3 tornado stormed through the area back in June, destroying their home.
“It’s going to be a long long time before we recover from this, but we did walk out of that house with our health and strength, we weren’t hurt, just lost everything. We went to FEMA, they didn’t help us any, and we did SBA, they strung us along for at least two and a half months,” says Pierce.
Taking matters into their own hands, Pierce and her family decided to get a loan from the bank to help rebuild their home, while receiving help from the community. “The people in the community were fabulous, at first we just kept getting food, water, clothes, and people from all around the area came by and brought things to help us along.”
She expressed her thoughts to those affected by the tornadoes in Tennessee this past weekend. “My heart goes out to those people because I know exactly how they feel.”
Upon hearing the devastating news in Tennessee, Pierce also emphasized the struggle to be in the “Holiday Spirit” while still trying to recover. “They don’t feel like holidays now after all that loss, and then hearing again about those other people; I couldn’t bring myself to try and go and shop. I just can’t do it.”
Residents in the community are still in the process of trying to recover just 6 months after the devastating tornado, and they say their hearts go out to the victims of the tornadoes in Tennessee.
