This Thanksgiving, Love’s Kitchen is providing a traditional meal in a nontraditional setting. People of Meridian were able to line up to a grab and go feast. The love is in the food and that’s just what Love’s Kitchen is proving this year even if it’s a slight change. Due to COVID-19, people were not able to enjoy their meals inside, but the kitchen is making sure they get just enough.
“A lot of times they would be able to sit down--eat a little and take one with them,” said Love’s Kitchen Executive Director Fannie Johnson. “This year, so people won’t be exposed for too long, we bought the bigger plates and we made bigger portions.”
Plates were loaded with turkey, dressing, green beans, macaroni and cheese and a dessert--then sent out to be distributed. People were socially distant as they received their meal and everyone was welcome.

“To know nobody will go hungry that wants to come down here and get a plate--everybody has access and we don’t ask any questions. They get to come and eat and everybody has a reason to be thankful and everyone has a full belly.”
With the help of volunteers and community support, the kitchen is able to operate smoothly for the people. Johnson says they are prepared to distribute 500 meals this Thanksgiving.
“As always, we wouldn’t be able to do this without the community’s help and support, the volunteers and financial support and the prayers because this year has been amazing and full of challenges.”
The kitchen also serves meals every Monday through Saturday for those in need.
