Man charged after alleged drug deal shooting

MERIDIAN, Miss. - A possible drug deal gone wrong ended up in a shooting on the 1900 block of 20th street in Meridian on Thursday. Tirek Jimmerson was charged with aggravated assault after shooting a man 8 times in an alleged attempt to buy drugs. According to Meridian Police, Chief Chris Read, the suspect was apprehended after a traffic stop conducted by the Lauderdale Sherriff Department.

“We can’t stop crime. While we’re not going to be able to stop the crime but we can deter and prevent it as much as possible. And also, when we find these individuals, which it was a quick apprehension, that we’re going to prosecute to the fullest and not only through state prosecution but also federal prosecution," says Read.

At this time, the victim is in stable condition.
