Around midnight Tuesday night, the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Department received a call regarding a domestic violence incident on the 1200 block of Richardson Road in Collinsville.
A female expressed the suspect, Keith Brunelle was destroying her home. As she attempted to leave the residency, Brunelle discharged a shotgun at her.
“Lieutenant Kris Cokel was the first vehicle in the driveway, the other 3 followed him,” says Sheriff Billy Sollie. “As they approached the house, a white male identified as Keith William Brunelle exited the front door, discharged a shotgun at the deputies. At that time, the deputies exited their vehicle and exchanged gunfire with Keith William Brunelle.”

Brunelle then died at the scene. Sheriff Billy Sollie says the deputies were not injured during the situation, but they were placed on administrative leave. It is now being determined how many shots were fired at Brunelle.
“That would be determined for the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation. The weapons that were utilized were turned over to them last evening. They’ll send those to the crime lab where they will be test fired and any projectile will be compared to those weapons.”
Video documentation has been provided to the MBI and information will be shared with the grand jury at a later date.
