Today in Meridian, Mayor Percy Bland held an update on COVID-19 in the city, via Facebook live, where he announced that he is once again extending the city-wide mask mandate, due to the recent uptick in COVID-19 cases in Lauderdale County.
The mask mandate is now scheduled to expire on December 31. Mayor Bland expressed his concerns about our local healthcare system seeing a strain, because of cases continuing to rise, and he is encouraging Meridian residents to wear their masks, to help mitigate the spread of the coronavirus.

“The city of Meridian is currently balancing our need for businesses to stay open during this season. we also want to keep in mind the concerns of keeping the public’s safety in mind. to that end we will continue to enforce our current mask ordinance, as it is not our intent to shut down any businesses, but to keep people as safe as possible,” said Percy Bland, mayor of Meridian.
Mayor Bland also stated during his update, that there will be more emphasis on the enforcement of the mask mandate with the city’s code enforcement and the police department, at this time.
