Meridian, MS - The shooting started outside Legends Bistro and Lounge, where a large crowd of people were enjoying their weekend.
People started running inside the building for safety after they heard gunfire.
Businesses and vehicles in the area were also struck by gunfire.
City Councilwoman, Ty Bell Lindsey, wanted to reach out to the local residents about the situation.
“It is not something that we’re going to take lightly. It is something that we take very seriously, and we want this community to know that we are sending our love. We’re going to send our support to be the best community that we can.”
Twin States also asked the people downtown how they felt about the shooting that took place.
Frequent downtown bike rider Donald Brooks says “I live in Pachuta, but I like to come downtown Meridian to ride my bike. It’s a pleas… I thought of it as a pleasant place to ride. After this, hearing about this shooting, I don’t feel safe riding around here.”
With the community feeling unsafe, Mrs Lindsey has one more message the city of Meridian.
“We’re going to stand together, we’re going to Unite, and we're going to be better people for our children. We don’t want anything of this nature to happen again, and I don’t want the community to feel unsafe.”
Mrs. Lindsey says that she does believe this was an aimed attack on one of the victims, but police are still looking for suspects and they do need your help.
