MCC Breaks Ground on Athletic Facilities

Meridian Community College (MCC) broke ground today on its' new sports complex that will hold its' softball field and tennis court facilities.

MCC and Citizens National Bank have formed a relationship and partnered to begin this new project.

"When Tom and his group came and sat down with our bank president and me to talk about this project and showed it to us on paper, it just seemed like the right and natural thing to do, " said Citizens National Bank CEO Archie McDonnell.

President of MCC, Dr. Thomas Huebner, believes that the new facilities will open doors to unique opportunities for MCC students.

"Well, this is exciting for all of us. Not only will it beautify this corner of town with something significant, but this will provide opportunities for our students to play in state-of-the-art facilities. They deserve that. Our students deserve the best we can give them", stated Dr. Huebner.

The facilities will include a state-of-the-art softball field along with more than six tennis courts that will now allow MCC to host tennis matches on campus.

"It's going to be nice. To go from Highway 11 to Highway 19 or from 8th St. onto Highway 19 and look over and see that facility is going to be something we're excited about. That's going to be a big deal for us."

The two facilities will be named after Dr. Tommy McDonald and Wanda McPhail.
