MCC raises Mississippi state flag

Meridian Community College participated in raising the new Mississippi State flag today at the flagpole plaza in front of Scaggs Hall. Many faculty and students took part in celebrating the new flag as it was raised. Several speakers were present to speak on the flags’ significance.

“It represents hope, it represents unity and togetherness and for us, as a college we want to embrace the opportunities we have in our students," said President Dr. Thomas Huebner.

President Huebner says the flag will be flown next to the American flag for years to come.

“When our students come here, they have a bright future that’s bright and we want to help communicate that future to them and this flag is just a symbol of that.”

The new Mississippi State flag became official in early January.
