MERIDIAN, Miss. - The Mississippi Children’s Museum-Meridian held a ribbon cutting ceremony today for the debut of their “My Fantastical Backyard. Several officials came together to cut the ribbon. The museum opened its doors in March and Executive Director Liz Wilson says it’s been a huge success thus far.
“We have been busy on the floor helping them explore every gallery of our indoor gallery and now we’re going to be welcoming them to the outdoors," said Wilson.
The “My Fantastical Backyard” covers 25,000 square feet and gives many activities for children to enjoy. Wilson says the museum has already served over 8,000 children over 17 states in the last month.
This is the fifth visit Raven Hillie and her three children have made to the museum and she says with her background in early childhood education, she understands her children’s curiosity.
“They come every chance they get," said Hillie. "I know that play is how children learn so I feel like they learn a lot being here.”
Kasen Winstead says he enjoys the waterfall, boats and the sandbox in the backyard.
With COVID-19 still in the air, Wilson says cleanings will be met throughout the day.
“We do know that some children and families-they feel more comfortable being outside right now. We’re just thrilled to be able to have this resource," said Wilson.
The Mississippi Children's Museum-Meridian is open Tuesday-Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
