MCM'S 2nd Annual Back-to-School Bash

Updated: Aug 5, 2022

As summer comes to an end and students begin trading in goggles for backpacks the Mississippi Children’s Museum is ramping up for its Second Annual Back-to-School Bash for students and parents.

"It's a time that we celebrate students and teachers returning to school. We invite families to wear their teams and share their school colors and join us. We will have folks from our community, such as Dental folks and Nutritionists, who will be helping us as we get back to school," explained Claire Huff, the Museum's Director of Education.

Huff says the theme for this year back to school bash is a pep rally which is a way to get children excited about returning to school.

"We have opportunities for children to learn about the science of bubbles throughout the day. We've invited cheerleaders, cheerleaders squads, and bands to come and help us. It's a pep rally theme, so we're getting excited about going back to school," she said.

Many different games, giveaways, and educational activities will be available as well as food trucks. Huff says with literacy being the main foundation for the Museum it was important for them to continue a back-to-school bash this year.

Huff stated, "We are an informal educational opportunity for our community, and we are so supportive of education, and we just want to get folks excited.

We have the Miss Meridian Lauderdale County, Junior Auxiliary group. They will be here giving away books. Literacy is one of our foundations. Steam is so important, and we are supporting our community with all of those opportunities here on Saturday."

The Back-to-School Bash will be taking place at the Children’s Museum this Saturday, August 6th from 9 am to 5 pm and they are inviting everyone from the community to come out to.
