Meridian, MS - The Mississippi Department of Transportation has relaunched their “Don’t Trash Mississippi” anti-litter campaign, and Meridian Resident Lindsey Roberts feels that is a great idea. “Everywhere you look it’s just litter. I mean everywhere, they just pull alongside the road throw the trash out and keep on trucking I guess, that’s all I can say cause it’s terrible, just everywhere.”
Roberts believes that more can be done to bring an end to the litter problem. “A lot of it’s being dumped at on these on and off ramps, at a truck stop or something like that; it’s terrible on those; if they could put up some cameras and take pictures of those doing it, they could stop a lot of it I believe.”
As stats show a total of over 170,000 bags of litter removed just last year, Michael Alexander of Canton encourages others to use caution. “Pay more attention to what they’re doing as far as trash is concerned just pick it up and don’t do it.”
Michael remains positive in the community to bring an end to the litter. “I hope that we can get it all cleaned up, A cleaner city and cleaner State, is a better State and better city.”
The Mississippi Department of Transportation encourages people to be sure they put their trash and recyclables where they belong.
