Meridian MS - A Memorial Day event was held at the Lauderdale County courthouse to celebrate those who died to protect our freedom. Colonel Cynthia Smith was the keynote speaker. “I was truly humbled to be asked to participate in this ceremony. It is so very important, so very solemn, as we remember those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for the freedoms we enjoy today. “

Speaking of freedom, Colonel Smith encourages people to enjoy the holiday, but never forget the sacrifice. “I hope as people enjoy the Memorial Day weekend, as they should. Pause and reflect on these freedoms that they’re enjoying, and what price was paid to secure these freedoms.”
William Hassenfratz of meridian explains why he feels Memorial Day is so important. "It’s a day of dedication, remembrance, reserve and resolve, to keep this nation free.”
He not only reflects on the lives of those fallen, but the country as a whole. “We need revival in this country, not only a spiritual revival in God, We need revival in nationalism. Be proud to be an American. Just like John F. Kennedy said, “Don’t ask what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.””
