MERIDIAN, Miss. - The Mississippi Children’s Museum-Meridian held a ribbon cut ceremony Thursday to prepare for the grand open on this coming Saturday. Officials came together to cut the ribbon. The museum has been in the works for about six years and under construction since 2019. Executive Director Liz Wilson says the journey has been long, but worth it.
“We broke ground at the end of 2019,” said Wilson. “Now we are-spring of 2021 and we have this beautiful, amazing facility ready to welcome children and families.”
Covering 25,000 square feet, the museum features inside and outside exhibits.
“I like climbing and the airplane stuff. I like the canoe and the water. I like almost everything I've been on," said It's exciting and something you don't get to do everyday," said Cayden McDonald.
The grand opening of the museum will be this Saturday, March 27th beginning at 9 a.m to 5 p.m. Wilson says all exhibits will be thoroughly cleaned from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. each day. While in the museum, you may spot some familiar places you see in Downtown Meridian, such as the Riley Center.
“A lot of the materials--a lot of the products they use are all from the City of Meridian and surrounding areas of Lauderdale County," said Mayor Percy Bland. "A lot of the exhibits were made with hands in Meridian.”
