In Meridian, the opportunity for residents hoping to run for a city council seat or mayor is approaching, as residents will be eligible to apply as a candidate beginning on Monday, January 4.

In order to qualify as a candidate in the 2021 city election, the applicant must have been a resident of the city of Meridian for 2 years, complete a form, obtain 50 signatures from meridian residents, and be eighteen years old or older. The election day for city council seats and mayor will be June 8, 2021.
“I would really just ask them to look at the Secretary of State's website to find out what’s required of a candidate to find to the different dates that items are due, as far as the primary election, the run-off, if there’s a run-off, and then the date for the general election,” said Brandye Latimer, city clerk in Meridian.
The last day to apply to be a candidate to run for mayor or a city council seat is February 5 at 5pm.
