MERIDIAN, Miss. - Meridian Community College along with city officials dedicated the Ivy-Scaggs Hall Monday. The building was previously named Ivy Hall. The Hall is named after founder of the college, Horace Ivy and founding president the Dr. Bill Scaggs.

Dr. Scaggs’ family was present during the dedication and was awarded a plaque on his behalf.

“I think when we look back on the legacy of my dad’s efforts and work, it’s one of the community, it’s one inclusion and outreach-seeing that the needs of everyone had the opportunity to grow and reach their full potential," said Scaggs' son Skip Scaggs.

Dr. Scaggs was president of Meridian Community College from 1968 to 1998. He was leader of both the college and many organizations throughout the community.

“Dr. Scaggs was so important to this college, to this community and to be able to take a building that is at the center of our campus and put his name on it--I think it’s very significant," said MCC President Dr. Thomas Huebner. "It’s a way of recognizing someone who was fundamentally responsible for helping create the organization that we know today.”

The ceremony was held in the circle of the Ivy-Scaggs Hall building.
