Meridian Community College holds MIBEST week

Meridian Community College, along with the other 14 community colleges in the state are hosting their MIBEST week. MIBEST stands for Mississippi Integrated Basic Education and Skills Training.

This program allows qualifying individuals without a traditional high school diploma to enroll in college credit pathways to train for a career while earning their high school equivalency diploma.

“Those who have been out of school for a while may need some basic skills training for reading, writing or math--if they want to come see us here at the Adult Education Building, we’ll be glad to take care of them," said MIBEST College and Career Navigator Rhonda Smith. "This is a great opportunity for students to come back and get their GED or high school equivalency while they are going to college. With the MIBEST program, it pays for their tuition, pays for their textbooks or anything that they need. The MIBEST Program helps to build up student's self-esteem, teaches them career awareness and motivates them in obtaining employment which leads to self-sufficiency."

The MIBEST event will be going on until Friday at the Meridian Community College Ralph E. Young, Jr. Center for Adult Basic Education. For information on programs available, contact Rhonda Smith at (601) 484- 8645.
