Meridian Community College kicked off there Tuesday morning by helping others in need.

”I was at Meridian Community College this morning where they have coordinated with Mississippi Blood for the community residents to come out and donate blood to help save a life. The event coordinator tells us what inspired today’s event.
“We know that we are vital to the community and the community is vital to us and we like to help our students to create a sense of their responsibility to help and see the impact they can make on people.”
Leanne the coordinator for today’s events tells us what today's goal is.
“We want to try and at least get 90 units, that would be 45 each day, we are well on track for that today and we still have appointments available.”
They will be at Meridian Community College today and tomorrow from 10- 3:30 pm in front of Graham gymnasium
“We want to ask everyone to come out and help us today, you never know who you can help with a blood donation there are so many people that need it.”
The Coordinator tells me everything that is required for someone wanting to donate blood.
“We just need you to bring a picture Id, have a small bite to eat before you come.”
For those who may be wondering if everyone is welcome to donate blood at the drive, she had this to say.
“Yes, this is open to the public and each donor will receive a $10 Visa gift card and a t-shirt and all donors will be put in a drawing for $50 for the MCC bookstore.”

I also ran into some students who gave their reasons on why they decided to donate blood today.
Nikita Brown said, “ I’m giving blood today because my blood and maybe even your blood can help save the next person that’s in an emergency situation one day.”
Parisian Brown stated, “Today I’m giving blood to save someone’s life, you can give blood to save someone’s life and save another person.”
The Meridian Community College has made having a blood drive on campus a part of a tradition and they plan on continuing to have blood drives in the future to continue to help those in need.
