Meridian Community College To Hold A Drive-Thru Program Review

In Meridian, Meridian Community College is planning to hold a “Drive-Thru Program Review”, which is the college’s new take on a college fair, having to adapt due to challenges presented by the pandemic.

The “Drive-Thru Program Review” will be held on Tuesday, August 4 from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. in the parking lot of the MCC Riley Workforce Development Center.

Twenty-four of MCC’s programs will be highlighted at the drive-through program review, and potential students will have the opportunity to learn about each one represented.

MCC’s Dean of Workforce Education, Lori Smith, shared why they decided to hold the event in a drive-through format and how attendees will navigate to learn about each program when at the event.

“Due to social distancing we can’t have a traditional college fair like we usually do, so we were trying to think outside of the box, and do something creative, and we decided to try a drive-through program review where potential students could stay in their vehicles and drive around from tent to tent in our large parking lot at the workforce center in order to learn a little bit more about the career technical programs we have to offer,” said Lori Smith, MCC’s Dean of Workforce Education.

She also shared that MCC may continue to utilize a similar format for this event in the future.

“If we have to continue this new normal of ours, with the pandemic, and the social distancing, hopefully I see something like this --we can do it again. Maybe, not necessarily driving through, but people can park and get out and visit each of the booths, and it will be more of a festival-type carnival setting, even if we’re all in masks, and practicing as much social distancing as possible”, said Smith.

Each visitor that attends MCC’s “Drive-Thru Program Review” on August 4th will receive free popcorn, grab bags, and will be entered in a drawing for five hundred dollars off tuition, or books and fees.
