Meridian community shares thoughts on dangerous heat.

Meridian, MS - What began as a hot week to some residents, has them expecting things to get even more hotter.

Tamera Falconer is a resident of Newton County and doesn’t particularly enjoy the heat.

“It is extremely hot so I feel like everybody should of course drink a lot of water. I’m a cold weather type person so I rather for it to be cold anyway.”

Unfortunately, temperatures are expected to get more hotter before they cool down. As heating temperatures could exceed over 105 degrees, Kenneth Graham of Meridian says caution is the best key. "The Humidity does not help things. What you got to do is get out early in the morning, and late in the evening. Drink plenty of water, you cannot drink enough water to keep up with this heat.”

Speaking of water, Charity Jones of Meridian feels pools are the best place for children that may be playing in the heat. “We haven’t been going to playgrounds and going to play in our backyard unless there is water, so we’ve been trying to hit the Navy Base pool or my parents pool just about every day or we stay inside.”

She also feels doubling the amount of drinking water is a great way to beat the heat. “Even for a regular water drinker you have to double up because of this heat, you’re sweating, which is releasing more sweat, so you have to hydrate twice much.”

As the heat temperatures continue to rise, residents say make sure you drink plenty of water in order to stay hydrated during this time.
