Ward 5 city councilman, Weston Lindemann, has announced that he plans to run for mayor of Meridian in 2021, following a special called meeting on Thursday, July 30.
A Meridian native, Lindemann is currently serving in his first term as Ward 5 councilman, after winning the seat in 2017. Twin States spoke with the councilman regarding his recent announcement to enter the mayoral race.

“The past three years on the council there's so many things I've been able to shine a light on --different directions and proposals, I've been able to present to the council and to the mayor's office, but the problem has always been, they choose to follow the mayor's lead and so many times I've seen that take us in the wrong direction, like at yesterday's special called meeting with this bond issue. That I mean-- I just kind of realized, in particular after that meeting yesterday that I am going to have to announce that I'm running for mayor, I'm going to have to run for mayor to actually make the level of impact that I'm trying to make,” said Weston Lindemann.
Councilman Lindemann will be running against current mayor, Percy Bland, and previous Ward 2 councilman, Tyrone Johnson, in next year’s election.
