Meridian MS - Although he was concerned for their safety, Fire Chief Jason Collier was comfortable with his team travelling to Rolling Fork so they could help during this time of devastation.
"Well, we knew those people needed a lot of help, you know, and I’m proud of the guys. They are very skilled. They know what they're doing, and they were ready to go to work and help others. You know, obviously, you don't want to get anybody else hurt, any of our people who are trying to help. But it was well worth the risk. They're smart and they knew what they were doing."
Senior firefighter Brandon Buckley was one those who went to rolling fork. He explains what it was like to help. "Well, it was definitely an experience. Many people lost many things and just really thankful for the opportunity to be able to go and to be able to see people and their emotions change in that time of depression, it was definitely an experience for us and shows that when something like that happens, people definitely come together and reach out for help."
Chief Collier says there is no plan to go back as of right now, but he said they'll be ready if the opportunity comes again.
