The Meridian Freedom Project honored co-founder of the project and founding President of Meridian Community College Dr. Bill Scaggs.
Dr. Scaggs passed away on July 14, 2020 at 84-years-old. The Freedom Project created t-shirts and presented Scaggs’ family with a plaque for his years of dedicated service to the community. Scaggs’ family also accepted a resolution by Mayor Percy Bland.
“We’re very humble--that’s the best way to say it,” says Scaggs’ daughter Susan Scaggs.”I think that the work speaks for itself and supporting the community was definitely very important to my father. The Freedom Project is certainly an area that he was extremely proud of. It’s an exciting thing for us to find ways for our family to continue to stay engaged with the Freedom Project and with the community because it meant so much to him.”
Scaggs t-shirts will also be sold for a fundraiser to go towards the Dr. Bill Scaggs Scholarship for seniors’ open graduation for the Freedom Project.
