Meridian, MS - The Wildcat gymnasium was full of freshmen ready to learn about potential careers.

There were booths set up so the students could talk to current professional bankers, graphic designers, and many more.

Ninth Grade Keystone teacher, Sheila Hodge, informs Twins States News what this event is all about.

“November is National Career and Development Month. We are celebrating here at Ninth Grade Freshman Academy for our ninth graders to know and determine a pathway for their future.”

Ms Hodge explains how this benefits the students who are in the process of deciding on what job they plan to pursue later in life.

“Some will go to college, some will go in the military, some will go in the workforce, and some just don’t know where they want to go. So, we want to help them by guiding them in a direction so that they’ll know what they need and how to get there.”

Ninth Grade Wildcat, Madilynn Stephens, expresses all of the things she learned this morning.

“What I learned today was different careers and what I can do to achieve those careers, different colleges I can go to, different assets that go with those jobs, and what benefits go with it also.”

Her classmate, Nicholas Bradford, says he plans on being an engineer.

“I’ve got the skills it takes to be an engineer, and like in my head, because I’m good at listening, and like math. You need math to be an engineer, and I’m real good at math.”
