With Covid cases taking over schools all across the state of Missississippi. Some schools are changing up their schooling to prevent the spread of Covid. Meridian High has decided on hybrid learning for their students and the Districts Public Relations Director gives us more detail.

Matt Davis stated, “With Meridian High being our largest campus district, school administrators felt that that would cause the least amount of disruption to learning for those students at Meridian High.”

The public relation director says that the districts decision to go hybrid was in the best interest to keep students and staff safe.

“We know that there's no substitute for traditional instruction, but many were concerned about the increased number of Covid positive cases throughout the state. This allowed us to keep students safe while still providing the best education possible.”

When asked how long the hybrid scheduling will be active for he stated.

“Students at Meridian High School will be participating in hybrid learning until September the third 2021.”

In case you were wondering just how the school is coordinating face to face learning and virtual learning Davis had this to say.

“Student learning is coordinated through Canvas, which is our learning management system. Students at home have to log into class via Zoom, and their lessons are uploaded into Canvas daily with students learning on a hybrid model.”

For teachers how is hybrid working out? Are they still at school teaching or working from home?

“Teachers are still teaching at school. They have students in front of them at school during their scheduled day.”

The Director explained the process of how they decided on when students would learn virtual vs hybrid learning.

“So basically, the way that works is students who have the names A through L would attend school face to face one day. Then the following day, those with the last name A through L would attend school virtually while students with the last name N through Z attended school face to face. And then we had alternate days that way.”

The Mississippi department of Education State Board voted to allow schools to use hybrid scheduling in response the the COVID Pandemic. This allows school districts to comply with CDC guidelines and social distancing while still allowing students to learn with little disruptions.
