Meridian, MS - Meridian High School hosted a Student Leadership Retreat for its students. Assistant Principal Tiffany Fisher feels it was a great way to teach the students skills that they may not know. “It is our goal to make sure we develop the whole student, we know we teach our kids academics, but they lack a few soft skills that we know they’ll need to go to college, military, or their career, so it is our goal to expose them to different things and give them the leadership skills.”
Learning soft skills about leadership and Integrity is something that Speaker, and Mississippi State District 32 Senator Rod Hickman encourages for all of today’s youth. “These are the individuals who will be the next pillars of our community and I’m always wanting to pour as much as I can into them.”
Speaking of pouring into the youth, students Kailey George, and Taderriyon Forbes feel that the retreat has helped them in many ways.
“Getting to know other people and their stories and learning to know what I can do as a leader.” -Kailey George
“Different skills, soft skills that I can take back and carry around the school, or even use in my everyday life after graduation.” - Taderriyon Forbes
Meridian High says they are molding the minds of today’s youth to make better leaders.
