MERIDIAN, Miss. - A total of 270 graduates from Meridian High School will graduate next week. Due to COVID-19, the school was not able to hold a traditional ceremony last year, but Principal Dr. Joe Griffin says they hope to fulfill a bit of normalcy with the class of 2021.
“We are happy to be seeing some bright spots as we get back to where we need to be coming out of the pandemic. We are excited to be able to provide some traditional things.”
Some safety guidelines will be met. For starters, noise makers and balloons will not be allowed within the Ray Stadium and masks will be worn during the ceremony. Griffin says they are continuing to follow guidelines set by the CDC.
“You have to give those outside the stadium due to capacity limits and restraints. We are asking that you wear a mask. The graduates will have masks and the attendees will also be masked up.”
Traffic will be directed by the Meridian Police Department and the stadium is expected to open at 8 a.m. In the event of bad weather, officials say the ceremony will be moved to the MHS Boys Gymnasium, only allowing two tickets per graduate.
The Meridian High School graduation will be next Thursday beginning at 9 a.m. For more information on the graduation, visit here.
