The National Arts Honor Society at Meridian High School presented a check this morning to L.O.V.E.S Kitchen from their Empty Bowls Fundraiser. This was an Annual Fundraiser that the Society hosts and they say this was the most they have raised in the past few years.

Shrishti Srivastava the President of the NAHS stated, "We did empty bowls and it’s where we go out into the community and ask some of our restaurants to donate food for us to raise money for loves kitchen."

With COVID causing them to take a year off they wanted to start back up strong and raise as much money as they could for L.O.V.E.S Kitchen.

"Our teacher told us that she hasn’t been able to crack $600 in a couple of years so me and my vice president was like we want to just get to $600 and then we found out that we got to $1,000." said Srivastava.

The Executive Director of L.O.V.E.S Kitchen, Fannie Johnson tells us how much of an impact receiving donations from the community has on L.O.V.E.S Kitchen.

"We take this money and make sure we're able to feed people. And we do have some kids, not a lot of kids that come through our line, but sometimes we like to say the kids are feeding the kids and the adults and it's just amazing."

Previously being impacted by COVID L.O.V.E.S Kitchen. has found ways to continue serving the community while also keeping everyone safe.

"Making sure we feed everybody that comes to the door because we're still feeding take out now because of COVID but just making sure that we're able to provide a balanced meal in a safe environment. We're staying safe with the social distance and we have mass, we have hand sanitizer. Everything is to go, everything's covered. So just to be able to make sure that the people that are hungry and meridian that need us never get turned away and there's always a nice balanced meal," said Johnson
