Students at Meridian High School visiting the polls this morning. The school participated in “Promote the Vote” activities today-- sponsored by the Secretary of State’s Office. Students had the opportunity to experience the reality of voting at a precinct. Teachers at the school are making the students aware of the process and the importance of getting out and voting.
“We understand they aren’t old enough to vote, but we want to prepare them for when they grow up and make them become part of the voting process,” said Meridian High Teacher Kimberly Cross. “We have some students that are very well versed in knowing what’s going on with the election.”
“It is important to make sure our voices are heard and it matters-the votes and how to shape America,” student and first-time voter Kayiana Jasper said. “I got to see how to actually vote and prepare myself for when I do go to the polls.”
Students say they were very excited and eager to learn about the upcoming general election.
