Meridian Housing Authority's George Reese Courts Honors Community Icon

A local community comes together to honor and show how much an impact one individual made on those around him.

The Meridian housing authority’s George Reese Courts Community honored Mr. Rush Gordon this morning to re-dedicate its newest facility in honor of Mr. Rush Gordon. Over 21 years of the multi-purpose building being vacant, it was decided to revitalize and dedicate the building to someone who has been such a staple in the community for over 30 years.

Ronald Turner Executive Director of Meridian Housing Authority said, " The residents over in this community wanted to rededicate this building to an icon from their community. And they chose Mr. Rush Gordon, who has been doing volunteer work in this community for the past 30 years."

The members of the George Reese Court Advisory Board voted unanimously to rename the center in Mr. Gordon’s honor.

"We just felt that it would be an honor and would be befitting to dedicate this building, which we totally renovated in honor of Mr. Rush Gordon."

From previous boy scouts of Mr.Gordon to family members and friends along with city officials such as Mayor Jimmie Smith and Municipal Court Judge Dustin Markham spoke in honor of knowing Mr. Gordon.

"He's just a great guy, and he got the best out of all of us. He gave us an opportunity to lead and share with one another." said Loius Sutton

Mr. Gordon's first-ever Eagle Scout talks of how he impacted his life and other boys by giving them the scouts oath to live by.

"He lived it himself as an example for us. And that's a tremendous thing in, our community for you to live for someone else. And that's what he did for us. He taught us anything he gave us love." said Sutton.

The multi-purpose building includes a first-class laundry mat and will be used for residence meeting spaces, training space, and think tank space.
