Meridian Man hoping to Inspire, Living Proof

A Meridian man is hoping to inspire people through his museum, “Living Proof”. The museum is filled with different pictures and articles celebrating not only black history but the history of the owner’s own life.

Robert McGlothin born in 1940 in Meridian; MS opened a picture museum called Living Proof. Inside the museum, the walls are filled with pictures of himself, his family members, and black history.

I asked Mr. Robert what sparked his decision to start capturing every moment through a photo.

“Professor Reed, our principal, on the night of orientation said, “We are gathered here tonight, but all will never meet at the same time again.” It scared me, so at any moment I’ll take a picture. This is when it was.”

McGlothin told Twin States a story of him being at a basketball game and randomly picking a child to put a t-shirt on that says, “Readers are Leaders”. He believes that he earlier you start to instill principles into children, the better.

“My idea was to let them grow up knowing that they are somebody and they can be anything they want to be. They have to be willing to obtain a work ethic and they need to be fair along the way. So, I do that to try to inspire them to represent”, said Robert.

Mr. Robert is hoping that people will come out to the museum to learn and gain more knowledge on history.

“It’s frightening to me that people think they know enough. I have some things that I want to share with them. Many people take the norm and are curious. I want to know what’s behind the bush. I want to know what's under the rock, and I hope that I can inspire people. There is more than just your couch and your TV.”

The Living Proof Museum is located on 8th street across from the Hope Village thrift store.
