Meridian, MS - The Meridian Museum of Art's Collective Group is currently painting a mural at the Meridian regional Airport, to honor the history of aviation in the Queen City. Collective Group Member Kris Gianakos explains what makes this mural unique. “We Want to project the idea of Military operations that occur here, the civilian operations, and touch into the historical part of it.”
This is the second mural by the group, to be displayed at the airport. “We have one on the flight line side that we’ve completed already, it’s Welcome to K.M.E.I. which represents the airfield for aviators.”
Having painted many murals around the City of Meridian with the group, Leslie Carruth emphasizes the mission of the group. “Bring awareness to art in Meridian Mississippi, have some kind of outlet that visitors can come to and just beautify our community.”
So, when can people in the community expect to see the mural done? “Well, it’s depending on the weather, but we’re hoping to be pretty close to done withing the next two weeks easily.”
The Meridian Museum of Art Collective invites the public out on Saturday from 3PM to 5PM for their Community Day to help paint the mural.
