Many have heard of the tragedy that recently took place in Wisconsin at their Christmas Parade, Just as The City of Meridian is gearing up for its Annual Christmas Parade. The City of Meridian tells us the safety precaution they will be taking to ensure the safety of its citizens.

"We're very concerned about the safety in the city, and we want to make sure that there is a police presence during the parade. " said Event Coordinator Terrence Davis.

Davis says that the city will have officers and EMTs on the scene as well as Officers following the parade route.

"We're making arrangements right now not only to have a police presence, but we're going to have our fire guys as well as others in different locations to make sure that everything is safe for those who are watching the parade and for those that are in the parade."

The city is also making changes in how they distribute candy to ensure the safety of the children.

"Participants will be given out candy. But we're encouraging all participants in the parade not to throw out candy, but to have people walking alongside the floats to hand the candy out."

With last year's parade being smaller than normal due to covid, Davis says they expect a great turnout this year.

"We pull a lot of people from around the county in different areas to come and watch our parade. As of right now, we have over 30 participants in the parade."

Davis says slots are still available for those who wish to be a part of the parade and ask that applications be submitted by November 29th.
