Meridian Police Officer Passes Away

A Meridian police officer passed away yesterday due to cardiac arrest complications.

Officer John Ruffin had been the chief officer at Meridian Public School District but left to join the Meridian Police Department (MPD) about three weeks ago.

“Ruffin was always happy, always smiling”, said MPD Sgt. Heather Luebbers. “If he even thought you were in a bad mood, he was going to make you laugh and smile in some way. He was big on “I love you”, “See you tomorrow.” He had a passion for kids, helping our youth, that was a big thing of his.”

Officer Ruffin was married with two children. We are sending condolences to his family and friends.
