Meridian, MS - The City of Meridian is preparing for a weekend full of downtown events, in hopes of not only bring fun and enjoyment to the community, but also to bring in more visitors as well.
“It gives our city so many options for people coming to visit to see what we're all about." says Laura Carmichael.
Laura Carmichael is the Tourism Director for Visit Meridian and feels that the weekend events, like Earth’s Bounty, The Soule Live steam festival, and the 2023 RailFest will attract more tourists, thus benefiting the city. "It impacts us on so many levels, you've got people who are perhaps staying at our hotels, eating at our restaurants, so that equals economic development for us."
Carmichael also talked about the change in impact of tourism from last summer, ahead of the planned weekend events. "During the summer of course, you have a big impact from various outdoor events, for Fall we've got football games, our location is perfect for those traveling, and once they get to Meridian, they see how much we have grown, and all those things that make a really vibrant community."
While these events are considered to be fun and enjoyable, they are a great source of tourism, which is the 4th largest industry in Mississippi.
