A part of The City of Meridian's history will come "back to life" this weekend.

Over the years, a large part of what made Meridian what it is today has been lost or put on the back burner. There are plenty of museums and historical sites to honor the entrepreneurs, the musicians, and even the historical restaurants in our town – but for a while now, there really was no place that highlighted the industry the city was founded on: "the railroad industry."
but that will all soon change. After being closed for five years, the doors of meridian's downtown railroad museum will finally reopen this Saturday as part of "Railfest."
"So we are super excited we are going to be opening up the Railroad Museum for the first time in five years and hosting Railfest in conjunction with Steamday,” stated Lucy Dormont.
Lucy of the meridian rails historical society also points out that meridian was once the largest city in Mississippi and the railroads here were a big reason why.
“We have been working tirelessly for the last year to get this place back open this is something we truly believe in especially the fact that our town was founded on the railroads and we didn’t have a Railroad Museum to pay homage to that.”
The model railroad is no doubt the star of the museum but during the Railfest there will be plenty of other attractions:
“We are going to have trains, real trains, bands, music, vendor sales, model trains and some railroads antiques and memorabilia and even a kids area with wooden trains for the kids.”
Having the Railroad Museum open again is something that some people in town welcome:
“I think it great, it’s very good. I look forward to seeing it again,” said Meridian Local Gary Maxie.
The Railfest is scheduled to be held this Saturday from 8 am to 4 pm at the Railroad Museum Downtown.
