A new sports team is soon underway for baseball lovers in the city of Meridian.

The Queen City will be welcoming a new alternative baseball team called the Meridian Red Hots. The alternative baseball organization will be tailored specifically for those with special needs. The CEO Taylor Duncan tells us more details on the organization.
"We're very excited about bringing the opportunity over there in an area that I feel is otherwise underserved in terms of disability services."
After being diagnosed with autism at the age of 4 Duncan understands the negative perceptions of autism and wanted to provide others the opportunity to see what they are capable of.
"All are accepted for who they are encouraged to be the best they could be, and instilled confidence needed to fulfill dreams, of course, in life on and off the baseball diamond."
Duncan says the team is more than just a game and hopes to teach lifelong lessons to others.
"I don't just call it a game. I call it an experience because it's an experience to build friendships, to learn how to work together as a team, to be able to learn proper work ethic."
The meridian red hots team name comes from the iconic red-hot sign seen off of the i-20.
"We basically thought that would be a great reflection of the community."
Duncan hopes to have the team up and active by spring 2022. To sign up to be a part of the red hots head to https://www.alternativebaseball.org/play.
