Yesterday in Meridian, the Meridian Regional Airport performed an emergency drill this morning, with a real-time practice environment preparing them for emergency landing situations.
Members of Boy Scout Troop 70 participated in the simulation, acting as passengers on a plane. A barricade on the runway served as the plane, some of the agencies to participate in responding to the scenario were metro ambulance, city and county law enforcement, local fire departments, and LEMA. First responders modeled treatment of passengers as if the incident had occurred in real time.
“We are simulating that the CRJ200 has an emergency landing, but crashed south of the airport and our crash crews and our EMS, fire department, police, will respond to our airport emergency plan, and we’ll perform our duties as we would if there was a real crash”, said Paul Smith, Meridian Airport Authority Director of Operations.

The emergency drill is conducted once every thirty-six months and the information regarding this drill is reviewed each year.
