Meridian residents weigh in on mask usage in light of POTUS' COVID-19 diagnosis

Prior to the announcement of the president’s positive COVID-19 test, there has been a lot of controversy surrounding the recommendation to wear a facial covering to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Twin States spoke with Meridian residents for their thoughts on if they believe the POTUS and FLOTUS’ recent COVID-19 diagnosis will encourage more people to wear masks.

“We hopefully – you know, the news is pretty saddening, you know, or course you don’t want anyone to get sick, and also you know, hopefully it encourages everyone to do the right thing for the right reason,” said Rickey Coley, Meridian resident.

“I don’t really think it will change people’s mindset. I think people – you know, do what they want to do, like on my job, some want to wear it, some don’t want to wear it, you know,” said Rose Duff, Meridian resident.

A city-wide mask mandate is still in effect in the city of Meridian, requiring masks to be worn in public spaces.
