The Rotary Club of Meridian made a $20,000 check presentation to the Mississippi Children’s Museum-Meridian for books to use in their library exhibit. The funds come from a roast fundraiser of Harry Mayor and a grant the club recently applied for by Rotary International organization. The museum is looking to purchase about 1,000 books for children to read while at the museum.
“We’re a service organization who is committed to promoting goodwill and peace,” said Meridian Rotary Club President Michael Truelove. “A major factor and focus for us at rotary is education and what a better way to show this with our pledge to the children’s museum.”
The Rotary Club’s donation will be denoted in each book.
“There’s a lot of space in that library and a lot of need to expose our children to as many different titles, characters and stories that they could imagine,” said Executive Director of the Children’s Museum Liz Wilson. “These books will also be throughout the entire museum as well as our programming that will go out into the community.”
The museum is set to open this spring.
