The city of Meridian has announced that it still plans to honor its holiday season traditions, and hold its Annual Christmas Parade and Tree Lighting Ceremony.
To kick off the holiday season in downtown Meridian, the tree lighting ceremony is scheduled to be held on Tuesday, December 1, on city hall lawn, and the Christmas parade is scheduled to take place on Saturday, December 5, beginning at 5 pm. To prevent the spread of the COVID-19 at these events, city officials are asking those who plan to attend to wear a facemask, and practice social distancing. Meridian’s director of Community Development, Laura Carmichael told Twins States News, that this year’s parade theme is to honor and recognize essential workers for their efforts during the pandemic.

“I think we have a very fitting theme this year, its “Holiday Parade of Heroes”. You think about all we’ve been through during the past year, we thought that it would be kind of fun to recognize those that have been in the forefront, and --you know, out there during the pandemic and we just really want to celebrate them, but also celebrate the spirit of Christmas and what it means for our city,” said Laura Carmichael.
