CATHOLIC SCHOOLS ALL OVER THE NATION ARE TAKING PART IN A TRADITION ESTABLISHED IN 1974. OUR DANNY TODD SPEAKS WITH ST. PATRICK’S SCHOOL IN MERIDIAN AS THEY KICK OFF NATIONAL CATHOLIC SCHOOL WEEK.
Today kicks off National Catholic School Week. Saint Patrick School, right here in Meridian, is doing their part to keep the traditions associated with this Week alive. They hosted a parade to kick off the week and they're excited for what's to come.
ROB CALCOTE- PRINCIPAL says "Catholic Schools Week is a celebration across the United States. It's been going on since 1974, and every Catholic school in the United States celebrates something this week. We kick ours off. Traditionally by having a parade. To City Hall."
Principal Rob Calcote tells Twin States News that this is an annual tradition that the kids parents and staff really enjoy. He said the amount of support from the city officials and Meridian High School band is amazing to see and wanted to personally thank each of them for what they did to help.
BRANDON PRATHER- STUDENT says "This is a week where we celebrate all Catholic schools around the nation, and it's really just a week of fun. I mean, all week is like something different. Like on Tuesday is tacky Tuesday and then on Thursday is decades day."
Each day brings its own theme throughout the week, and students love the fun that comes along with this week. But not only that, they say they are able to make an impact in their nation through the power of prayer.
HELENA RUTLEDGE- STUDENT says "Something I like about Catholic schools' week is that the whole school comes together to celebrate. And so, it's just super fun not to be at our desk working."
School officials tell Twin States news that each day brings a different thing they pray for. Today was Community Day and they brought food and other items to pass out to Loves Kitchen and they pray for the community as a whole.
HELENA RUTLEDGE added "This upcoming school year. Will be our 150th anniversary of St Patrick's School. So that's really exciting."
The school staff stresses that traditions are fun, but when you have a tradition based on Godly principles that promote positive change and growth, that's an amazing thing to be a part of.
