MERIDIAN, Miss - Sales Tax numbers from the Mississippi Department of Revenue in the City of Meridian, Mississippi show more than a 57% increase compared to this time last year. Meridian has had consecutive months of increase compared to its 2020 numbers. The city’s special tax for restaurants is significantly higher for the period ending May, 2021 equating to an 80% increase in food and beverage sales.
According to City of Meridian, Mayor Percy Bland, “We are trending way ahead of other Mississippi cities with growth and development. Our team has left the city with strong financial health and new energy around the city as new housing and business permits are popping up everywhere.” Bland states that projects such as the new Castle Development, Mississippi Children’s Museum, Meridian, Threefoot Brewery, and Threefoot Hotel are also catalysts for future increased sales tax revenue.
This growth suggests a strong economic tax base and solid financial health for the City of Meridian.
