Twin States News has new information on a shooting in Meridian that left a seventeen-year-old seriously injured. Police now tell us that the victim and suspect were seen walking together minutes before the shooting on Tuesday.

There are still several questions about what led up to the shooting of a 17-year-old boy in Meridian.
We do know that a few hours after Tuesday’s shooting police took a suspect, 19-year-old Lilrodrick Smith, into custody.
“At 12:40 P.M. Tuesday, officers were dispatched to the area of 24th Avenue and 23rd street in reference to shots being heard and possibly somebody hit”, stated Sgt. Heather Luebbers. “Upon the officer's arrival, they found a juvenile hit multiple times. He was transported to a local hospital.”

Police tell us that witnesses saw both the suspect and the victim walking together before the shooting coming from a convenience store and going towards Meridian high school.
“According to witnesses the two individuals, the victim, and the suspect, Lilrodrick Smith, were seen walking together. It is unknown at this time what transpired to cause the altercation that resulted in our victim being shot.”

Because the victim is a juvenile, police are not releasing his name, but they did tell us that one of the shots fired possibly grazed the victim’s head.
“The victim was shot multiple times over several areas of his body. To say exactly what part at this time, I’m not able to tell you. I do know that victim was airlifted to a hospital in Jackson, the last I heard he was stable.”
A warrant for the arrest of the shooting suspect was issued just a few hours after the shooting. Lilrodrick Smith is now charged with aggravated assault and his bond is set at $250,000.
