In Meridian, two local volunteer organizations, MCM-Meridian Partners , and the Junior Auxiliary of Meridian, are partnering to provide a virtual field trip opportunity to elementary students.
Students will be taken on an immersive virtual tour of the Meridian Airport to learn about its significant history, airport operations, careers, and the science of flight.
The experience will include a pre-recorded video and lift kits filled with aviation-themed science, reading, and math worksheets, in addition to supplies for a flight experiment for students. The educational materials for students ranging from pre-K to fifth grade were developed by a local teacher, Gwen Rockette, at Clarkedale Elementary.
“I think the virtual field trip experience gives children a little background on some of the history here in Meridian. So, the Key brothers is something we really highlight in the museum, and I think children will get to learn a little bit about that and get excited to see it also at the museum,” said Rebecca Parker, marketing coordinator at the Mississippi Children’s Museum- Meridian

The items in the lift kits for the virtual field trip experience being conducted by the Mississippi Children Museum in Meridian , will be delivered to the Lauderdale County School District’s elementary schools this week.
