Mississippi Election Update

csims121

Meridian, MS - With over 800,000 thousand Mississippians filling out a ballot on Tuesday, Governor Reeves beat Democratic Candidate, Brandon Presley, by about 40,000 unofficial votes.

Presley had this to say after conceding the race.

“I respect the decision of the voters of Mississippi because that’s what makes our Democracy what it actually is. I want to take a moment and thank everybody that voted for me tonight. We came up a little short.”

Governor Tate Reeves had a watch party in Flowood and said this shortly after getting the news of his campaign victory.

“What a great crowd here tonight and I want to thank every single one of you. And I’ve got to tell you, this victory sure is sweet.”

Mississippi doesn’t have a new face in the Governor’s Mansion, but Lauderdale County will have a new face as Coroner at the start of 2024.

Lauderdale County has voted the first-ever woman, Stella McMahan, as the next coroner.

“It’s definitely something that I am proud of. I mean, women in the area of death care, we’ve brought a lot to the table. We brought our mom's heart and compassion, and I’m just excited to do that as a woman, as a mother, and a citizen of Lauderdale County.”

McMahan lets Twin States News know about her future plans as the next coroner.

“I definitely want to get involved with the schools, and talk to the students and let them know the dangers of drinking and driving, the dangers of drugs, the dangers of violent crime, and what I see in the role of coroner.”
