In a Facebook post this morning, the Mississippi Power expressed they are sending help to the Louisiana area after Hurricane Laura left a disastrous impact on the state.
According to www.poweroutage.us.com, more than $500,000 Louisiana residents were without electric service Friday morning.
“Whenever large storms hit any part of our partner utilities, we all collapse to that one area and pitch in wherever we can because in the end customers are in need no matter what state we live in,” says Vice President of Customer Service and Operations Fran Forehead.
Mississippi sent approximately eighty-five linemen, engineers and support personal to Jennings, Louisiana which is thirty miles east of Lake Charles.

“Our hearts go out to them. Tomorrow’s the anniversary for us- fifteen years from Katrina,” Distribution Manager/Storm Team Leader Stephen Schruff explains. “It’s a sad situation and we’re all worried about them. We’re glad to hear the surge wasn’t as bad as anticipated, but know they’re hit hard.”
Workers say they are ready to get out there and help restore power.
“We kinda get revved up about it. It’s game time and everybody enjoys going over there and just turning lights on for people,” says Schruff.
The Mississippi Power will continue to keep updates on the latest information.
