
Meridian, MS - There were many big races to pay attention to in yesterday’s primary elections.

Lauderdale County Chief Deputy Ward Calhoun defeated Republican challenger Ricky Roberts in the primary race for sheriff. He will have to face against Democrat Gerald Reon Johnson in the general election Nov. 7. Johnson faced no opposition in the primary.

In Kemper County Incumbent Sheriff James R. Moore faced off in the Democratic Primary against Michael Ted Evans. Moore won the vote and said he is grateful to be able to continue to serve his community. Moore promises to continue to work and focus on serving the community.

And in the race for Lieutenant Governor, Incumbent Delbert Hosemann has secured the Republican nomination. Hosemann will face his Democratic challenger Ryan Grover in the November election.
