Today, Mississippi State University personnel delivered a truck toolbox that has been created into a UV disinfected device to the Metro Ambulance Service in Meridian.
First responders will use the toolbox to disinfect the masks they use while serving the community during COVID-19.
Two students, Justin Easely and Ryden Smith are responsible for the new creation. Easely is a second year undergraduate student and Smith, a second year graduate student.
The device is designed to use UVC light to kill potential COVID-19 growth.
“So we took a truck tool box and converted it to what we’re calling the PPE disinfected camber and what it does is disinfects masks from surgical, 95s to cloth masks from coronavirus strains,” says student Ryden Smith. “These UVCs hardly produce any heat at all so you can run this box 24 hours a day and it’s still perfectly safe to touch. It has thirty minute cycle time so you can clean anywhere from 5 to 7 masks depending on different masks sizes.”
In addition, the students have posted instructions online and created a how to video on building the chamber. For more information, visit http://www.cavs.mssatate.edu/covid-19.php
